Back Up Your Student Google Account Before July 31, 2026
Geethanjali College of Engineering and Technology (GCET) is transitioning its institutional email, cloud storage, and collaboration services from Google Workspace to Microsoft 365.
What Will Be Migrated Automatically??
The GCET IT Administration Team will automatically migrate the following information to Microsoft 365:
Institutional emails
Email contacts
Calendar events
Existing institutional email address, such as
user@gcet.edu.in
Users will continue to use their current GCET email address after the migration.
What Must Be Backed Up Personally?
Files stored in the following Google services will not be automatically migrated:
Google Drive
Google Photos
Other Google-specific applications and associated data
All faculty members, staff, and students must download and safely back up their important personal, academic, and institutional files.
Backup Deadline
July 31, 2026, at 11:59 PM IST
Complete the backup before the deadline to prevent permanent loss of important files.
How to Back Up Files Using Google Takeout
Sign in using your institutional
@gcet.edu.inGoogle account.Visit Google Takeout at
takeout.google.com.Select Google Drive, Google Photos, Contacts, and any other required Google application data.
Click Next Step.
Under the delivery method, select Send download link via email.
Click Create Export.
Google will prepare the archive and send a download link to your email.
Download the generated
.zipfile and save it securely on your computer, external storage device, or personal cloud account.Open the downloaded archive and confirm that all important files are available.
Depending on the size of the account, Google may take some time to prepare the export. Users are advised not to wait until the final day.
Important Reminder
Backing up Google Drive and Google Photos data is the responsibility of each individual user. The IT team will migrate emails, contacts, and calendar events, but personal and academic files stored in Google applications will not be moved automatically.
